Sephiria Inventory Grid Guide
Artifacts, tablets, and Q/E preview — the build system that separates clears from resets.
The grid is your real build
In Sephiria’s 1.0 release, power flows through a tactile inventory grid separate from your weapon’s 200+ upgrade skill tree. Artifacts — roughly 300 in the full catalog — occupy shaped cells on the grid. Tablets (~70 types) sit beside artifacts and activate bonuses when adjacency rules match. Miracles, Potions, and the Side Bag layer tactical options on top, but the grid is where passive synergy lives or dies.
Players who treat pickups as “equip and forget” lose to players who preview with Q and E, rotate footprints, and hold empty cells for the tablet that arrives two rooms later. This guide teaches grid literacy for solo runs, Hard Mode, and co-op parties where loot calls still end on your personal board.
Grid basics
Each run starts with a limited grid footprint that expands through upgrades, inscription nodes from Destiny Inscription, and sometimes run rewards. Core concepts:
Artifact footprint — artifacts are not 1x1 icons; they occupy polyomino shapes (lines, Ls, Ts). A powerful effect on an awkward shape is a trap if it blocks adjacency.
Tablet adjacency — tablets typically buff neighboring artifact tiles if tags align (weapon type, element, proc family). Wrong neighbor = dead proc.
Q/E preview — before committing placement, use Q and E to preview rotations and adjacency highlights. This is mandatory muscle memory from Controls; doing it under fire loses runs.
Side Bag (1.0) — store situational pieces outside the active grid and swap before bosses. See Version 1.0 for Side Bag context.
Step-by-step placement workflow
Use this between every major pickup:
- Pick up artifact — read tags before auto-placement panic.
- Open preview — Q/E rotate; visualize tablet lines you are building toward from Tablet Combinations.
- Compare to plan — does this piece complete a line or create a dead cell?
- Place or bank — Side Bag or discard if the shape breaks future adjacency.
- Re-scan whole grid — one new tile may obsolete an old corner; rebuild willingly.
Skipping step five is how “winning” grids collapse after a single bad elite drop.
Dead cells and opportunity cost
A dead cell is any grid tile that neither carries a strong artifact effect nor touches a tablet bonus. One dead cell is tolerable early; three dead cells fail Hard Mode damage checks.
Fix dead cells by:
- Downgrading rarity for better shape — a blue piece that completes a proc beats a gold piece floating alone.
- Tablet rescue — sometimes a generic tablet salvages an awkward corner; see Tablets.
- Run reset — if chapter two grid is already brick-shaped, banking Sapphires via a quick reset beats forcing depth.
Planning tablet lines early
Decide your first tablet line by chapter one exit:
| Line type | Needs | Payoff |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon tag line | Artifacts matching your branch from Weapon Types | Scales with inscription |
| Sustain line | Heal/shield tags | Stabilizes learning runs |
| Miracle line | Cooldown or proc tags | Burst for bosses |
| Elemental line | Hard Mode prep | Resist or exploit modifiers |
Hold two empty adjacent cells if you know a tablet drop is likely next chapter — greedy full grids cannot adapt.
Mid-run rebuild etiquette
Rebuilding feels bad but saves time. Rebuild when:
- A new artifact completes a proc chain if you move three existing pieces.
- You picked a wrong branch-specific tag and procs never fire.
- Co-op partner calls a shared strategy from Companion Build that requires your corner freed.
Do not rebuild during combat; use room transitions and town portals only.
Weapon branch interactions
Each of the six weapon branches — Sword & Shield, Greatsword, Dagger, Katana/Blade, Crossbow, Staff/Magic — biases which artifact tags appear more often, not which shapes you ignore. Greatsword grids want stagger procs; Dagger grids want on-hit chains; Staff grids want Miracle adjacency. Cross-reference Tier List for branch popularity, but shape always beats tier hype.
Miracles, Potions, and the grid
Miracles trigger from gear tags and player input — grid mistakes reduce Miracle uptime indirectly by killing you before cooldowns matter. Potions cover failed reads; they do not fix unprocable artifacts. Read Miracles & Potions after your first successful grid clear.
Co-op grid etiquette
Loot is shared visibility, placement is private. Call shape needs (“I need a 1x2 fire tag”) instead of rarity vanity. Four misaligned grids lose co-op faster than one weak player because space collapses under overlapping telegraphs.
Boss prep swaps
Before chapter bosses — especially the Chapter 6 Final Boss — open Side Bag and:
- Swap sustain pieces for burst if phase DPS checks tighten.
- Insert anti-element tablets if Hard Mode modifiers apply.
- Verify Q/E preview on the final board before entering the arena door.
Practice drills
- Clear chapter one using only common-shaped artifacts — learn geometry.
- Win a run with zero dead cells tracked on paper.
- Rebuild mid-run once intentionally to see time cost versus payoff.
- Beat an elite without Potions to prove grid sustain works.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How do I preview artifact placement in Sephiria?
Use Q and E to rotate and preview artifacts and tablets on the inventory grid before confirming placement.
What is a dead cell on the inventory grid?
A tile that neither contributes a strong artifact effect nor touches a tablet bonus. Too many dead cells break Hard Mode runs.
Do tablets go on the same grid as artifacts?
Yes. Tablets occupy grid cells and buff adjacent artifacts when tag rules match — adjacency is the core build mechanic.
What is the Side Bag in Sephiria 1.0?
Extra storage for artifacts outside the active grid so you can swap pieces before bosses without losing pickups.
Should I always pick the highest rarity artifact?
No. Footprint and tag synergy beat rarity if the shape blocks tablet lines or creates dead cells.
