Launch-day balance pass — final boss fairness, Cleave quality-of-life, and multiplayer Hard Mode healing scales.

Patch 1.0.21 Hotfix

Hotfix context

Patch 1.0.21 shipped around the 1.0 launch window (2026-07-31) as a hotfix after Sephiria left Early Access. It does not add chapters; it retunes the Chapter 6 Final Boss, improves Sword & Shield Cleave usability, and prevents four-player Hard Mode healing from trivializing Blood Festival style modifiers. Read this beside the full Version 1.0 feature list.

Always confirm live values in Steam news if you are theorycrafting the same week as a newer patch such as 1.0.22.

Final boss changes

  • Phase 1 bullet attack — consecutive casts no longer spawn excessive projectile spam.
  • Phase 1 full-screen attack — character control remains available during the white-screen effect (previously locked).
  • Pillar Summoner minions (Phase 2) — health reduced by about 33%, speeding clear windows.

Practical impact: pattern literacy from Controls matters more than surviving random bullet walls. Update mental notes on the boss guide if you practiced on unpatched 1.0.

Sword & Shield Cleave

  • Base cost reduced (20 → 15), so Cleave appears more often.
  • Guard frames now begin at the start of the Cleave animation.

Beginners on Sword & Shield (see Weapon Types and Tier List) gain a real defensive tool during the swing, not only after.

Hard Mode / co-op healing nerf

Blood Festival (and similar) healing now scales down with player count in multiplayer Hard Mode — roughly 2P 66% / 3P 50% / 4P 33% of the old full sustain. Solo values remain the baseline reference.

Party stacks can no longer outheal the modifier forever. Coordinate cleanse and revive roles from Companion Build and Co-op (no host migration still applies).

Bug fixes worth knowing

  • Hard Mode could incorrectly mark as cleared after a Game Over in final boss Phase 2 — fixed.
  • Spinning Staff Demon warning VFX could stick — fixed.
  • Save/Load Preset failures — fixed.
  • Ultrawide hover quirks involving reroll / auxiliary bag icons — fixed.

Inventory tinkerers using presets should retest after updating; Side Bag workflows from Side Bag benefit from the ultrawide fix.

1.0.21 is a fairness patch. If Chapter 6 felt unfair on day-one binaries, update and try again before rewriting your entire Destiny Inscription plan.

How to practice after installing 1.0.21

Treat this hotfix like a short skill refresher, not a full respec event. Your Destiny Inscription board and Talents ranks still matter more than any single bullet change. Spend thirty minutes on a clean normal Chapter 6 attempt before blaming the patch for a wipe.

Recommended drill:

  1. Enter Chapter 6 with a familiar weapon branch — Sword & Shield if you want to test Cleave, otherwise your main.
  2. In Phase 1, deliberately stand in the white-screen window once to confirm you can still dodge or parry with habits from Controls.
  3. In Phase 2, time Pillar Summoner kills and note the shorter windows after the 33% HP cut.
  4. If you play co-op, run one Hard Mode lobby and watch how Blood Festival healing feels at your party size.
  5. Save a preset, reload it, and confirm Side Bag icons behave on your monitor aspect ratio — see Side Bag.

Build notes that still apply

Grid craft did not rewrite overnight. Inventory Grid adjacency, Tablet Combinations, and Combo Effects remain the primary power spike. What changed is fight fairness and multiplayer sustain. Do not dump Sapphires into vanity nodes because Cleave got cheaper — fund survival and Side Bag first if those nodes are still locked.

Artifact and Miracle timing from Miracles & Potions still decide whether a Phase transition is free. Use the hotfix as permission to retry Chapter 6 with the same build instead of inventing a brand-new rainbow board.

Reading order with other update pages

  1. Version 1.0 for the systems that shipped at full release.
  2. This page for launch-week fairness.
  3. Patch 1.0.22 for earthquake reliability and Breath of Ice correctness.
  4. Return to Hard Mode and the boss guide with updated expectations.

Steam news remains the legal source of truth for exact percentages. This wiki translates those bullets into player workflows so Bunnyville nights stay productive.

FAQ
